HIBERNATE®
Extreme cold weather sleeping bags

The insulation system in every Ledge cold-weather sleeping bag. Built for the nights other bags are not rated for.

What HIBERNATE® is

HIBERNATE is our own insulation standard, developed over more than two decades of building oversize cold-weather bags. It is not a fibre we buy and relabel. It is a specification — fibre, loading, layering and stitch pattern — that every bag carrying the mark is built to.

Warmth comes from loft: the thickness of still air the insulation holds between you and the cold. Most of the industry competes on fill weight, which is easy to print and tells you very little. We build to loft, and we build heavy. That is why our bags weigh what they weigh, and why they are rated where they are rated.

Hibernate™ Certified

A bag carries the Hibernate™ Certified mark when it is built to the full specification. Three things have to be true.

One
Stated loading
Insulation is specified in grams per square metre per surface, not just total fill weight. The number is the spec, and it is built to.
Two
Offset construction
Dual wall, offset stitched. No stitch line passes straight through both layers, so there is no cold seam anywhere in the bag.
Three
Built to size
Oversize patterns, cut for real people. A warm bag you cannot fit inside is not a warm bag.

Why we publish the specification

Temperature ratings on sleeping bags are close to meaningless. There is no mandatory standard below −4°F, so anyone can print any number on a label. Two bags marked the same can differ by thirty degrees in the field.

What cannot be argued with is construction. So we state it — the loading, the layer count, the stitch pattern, the shell, the liner. Compare those against anything else on the market and the difference is not subtle.
